Family Day Bonspiel

A Rose City Curling Club Family Day tradition!

About The Family Day Bonspiel

Every year on Family Day Monday, the Rose City Curling Club opens its doors to families from Camrose and the surrounding area. Anyone and everyone is welcome to come out and try curling!

When is the Family Day Bonspiel?

The Family Day Bonspiel takes place only once each season on Family Day Monday. This season, that is Monday, February 19th, 2024. To be redirected to the registration page, click the link below.

Monday, February 19, 2024

If you are looking for other family curling opportunities, please take a look at our Sunday Family Curling page, or our Try Curling page!

How Much?

Free! There is no cost for your family to come out on Family Day Monday!

Please note: While we strive to provide instruction wherever possible, we do not always have instructors available on Family Day Monday. Other participants are often willing to share their curling knowledge to ensure that everyone has a great time, but if you are interested in formal instruction, check out our Try Curling Lessons instead!

What do I Need to Bring?

The RCCC will provide all curling equipment if needed.

All participants are responsible for bringing clean, indoor running shoes and appropriate clothing. The best clothing is long, stretchy pants of some kind (tights, sweatpants, track pants etc) and layers on top. While the temperature in the rink is not arctic, it is an ice rink and can get cold. It's far better to have the layers and not need them, than the other way around.

Gloves and hats are permitted, but please ensure that any gloves do not have fuzz or sparkles that will fall onto the ice during the event.

All participants under the age of 12 are required to wear a CSA approved helmet at all times on the curling ice. Helmets are not mandatory for participants over the age of 12, but are always encouraged at each participant's discretion. A 1 parent : 2 child ratio is required on the ice at all times. We recommend a 1 : 1 ratio, but if a guardian is comfortable supervising 2 children, 2 : 1 is acceptable.

If you have your own curling equipment, please feel free to bring it along!

Please note: Clean shoes are mandatory. It is extremely important that shoes worn outside in the snow, water, and gravel not come on to our curling ice. The RCCC does not have spare shoes on hand, so if a participant comes to a lesson with inappropriate shoes, they will not be permitted on the curling ice.

Who Can Join?

Anyone! Anyone and everyone!

There are no age or experience restrictions on this event. A 2 : 1 child to adult ratio is required at all times on the ice. Anyone under the age of 12 is required to wear a CSA approved helmet on the ice at all times.

Curling has also made many improvements in the last couple of decades to broaden the accessibility of the sport. If crouching down and sliding seems impossible, stick curling is an option. This keeps the participant upright at all times.
